Journey — from small town to Birmingham
My Story

From a small town in India to the UK — chasing a dream.

A journey of music, marketing, a global pandemic, and one big bet on myself. Currently based in Birmingham, UK.

The Small Town That Started It All

I grew up in Madhya Pradesh, India, a place where big dreams had to fight hard against small expectations. Music was everywhere in my childhood. I passed my 12th standard with Maths and Biology, which meant the world expected me to become a doctor or an engineer. But I had other plans.

I was quietly obsessed with music: writing songs, producing beats on my laptop, watching YouTube creators build audiences from their bedrooms. Something in that creative-meets-commercial world lit a fire in me that biology textbooks never could.

"I didn't know what marketing was. I just knew I wanted to make things that people would actually pay attention to."

Prestige Institute, Indore: Where It Clicked

I enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Administration at Prestige Institute of Management and Research, Indore. It was here that the fog lifted. Business Finance, Marketing Management, Human Resources. Suddenly I had a language for everything I'd been instinctively doing online.

During these years I was posting music to YouTube, writing my own blogs, and creating content on social media, not as a hobby but as an experiment. What makes people click? What makes them stay? What makes them come back? I was studying marketing in the lecture hall and practising it on my own channels every evening.

I became the Social Media Coordinator for campus events at Prestige, designing event posters, creating meme-marketing videos, running promotions that actually got students to show up. That was my first real campaign. And it worked.

COVID Changed Everything

The pandemic hit during my BBA. The world stopped. But for me, it was the strangest gift. Suddenly everyone was online. Businesses that had never touched digital marketing were scrambling to survive on it. I watched the world realise what I already knew: the internet was the only place that never closed.

I started releasing original music seriously during lockdown. My song "Badal Gaya", which I wrote, composed and produced, was an exploration of exactly this moment: change, transformation, the feeling of becoming something different to what you were. It landed on Spotify and YouTube and taught me firsthand how digital distribution, social media, and content strategy actually work at a personal scale.

But COVID also made something else very clear: I could fly. The world was becoming borderless for anyone willing to go for it. I started researching universities abroad, not just to study marketing, but to actually understand this world I'd been living in.

"Every lockdown day I spent creating taught me more about attention, storytelling, and distribution than any textbook. I just didn't know it had a name yet. It was called digital marketing."

Badal Gaya

"Badal Gaya" (which means "Changed") is an original Hindi song I wrote, composed, and produced during the pandemic. It explores themes of change, nostalgia and transformation, the feeling of becoming who you always hoped you'd be. Releasing this song taught me everything I know about audience building, content distribution, platform algorithms and brand storytelling. It was my first real marketing campaign. I was the product.

University of Leeds: Understanding What I'd Been Doing All Along

I arrived in the UK in 2022 with a dream and a suitcase. The MSc in International Marketing Management at the University of Leeds was everything I hoped it would be, and harder than I expected.

Marketing Analytics. Digital & Interactive Marketing. Marketing Communications. Marketing Strategy. I was finally putting rigorous academic frameworks around all the instincts I'd developed through years of creating content, building audiences, and running my own little experiments online.

My dissertation explored the impact of influencer marketing across culturally diverse settings and strategies for authentic branding, a topic I cared about personally, having watched how differently the same content lands across Indian and British audiences. It brought together everything: my cultural background, my creative work, my emerging understanding of data and strategy.

That year changed how I think about marketing forever. It gave me the vocabulary, the frameworks, and the confidence to take everything I knew instinctively and turn it into something professional and measurable.

"I came to Leeds to learn marketing. I left understanding that I'd been doing it all along. I just needed the language and the proof."

Building a Real Career

After Leeds, everything accelerated. I took on freelance work, built a WooCommerce platform for a healthcare client, delivered measurable results, and kept climbing. In March 2025 I became a Digital Marketing & E-commerce Specialist at Direct Channel Support Systems Ltd, a B2B industrial e-commerce business, where I now own a £80k–100k paid media budget and lead SEO across 2,000+ product SKUs.

In March 2026 I became an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (ACIM), and a professional recognition that means a great deal, given how far the journey has been from Madhya Pradesh to Birmingham.

The results in my current role speak for themselves: 21x ROAS on Google Ads, 27x on Bing, and a 23.9% year-on-year revenue increase in 2025. But more than the numbers, what matters is that I've built systems: paid media infrastructure, SEO architecture, AI automation and email flows that will keep delivering long after any single campaign ends.

Birmingham Today

I'm currently based in Birmingham, UK, a city that, like me, came from somewhere humble and became something remarkable. I love it here. The diversity, the energy, the growing creative and tech scene.

From Madhya Pradesh to Birmingham, the journey has shaped how I think about marketing, brands, and what it takes to build something that lasts.

I work with clients wherever the ambition is. Geography has never stopped me before, and it won't now.

"I came from a small town with big dreams. Now I'm building the kind of career I used to only read about. The journey is not finished. It is just getting interesting."
